PJ @ University of North Texas

Image
Pink Jacket  was invited to speak to students at the  University of North Texas . Luckily, we have two alumni on staff! Both Ryan Wilson and I graduated from UNT out of the (brand new, at the time)  Digital Retailing  department. We went to go speak to students in a Consumer Psychology course about branding – something Pink Jacket knows VERY well. One of the key engagements we conducted with the students was a Q+A session. These students had some thought-provoking questions, considering they are coming from a younger generation, with an outsider’s perspective of the Marketing universe. Let’s peek at four of the more interesting questions that were brought up and some of our responses. What does a typical day look like at Pink Jacket? Everything and anything! No, truly. I think one thing that is interesting to note is that life at an agency is always changing day-to-day. It depends on what time of year, what time of the month, new clients onboarding, etc. The PJ team ...

“As South by Southwest has grown, it has helped elevate Austin’s reputation worldwide as not only a music destination but also a home for technology and innovation.” – The New York Times After a long weekend of keynote speeches, learning sessions, networking, and so much music, it was good to be back home in Dallas. 5 Video Strategies for Social

Image
The “new wave” in digital has been alive and thriving for a handful of generations now. Not to knock the *Metaverse* ( Jury’s still out on if Zuck’s digital playground will ever be widely adopted. ), but Video is where it’s at, and its impact will only grow bigger in the future. Here are a few helpful strategies for social video content. The hold that video has over consumers now is shown in a statement by Google VP, Prabhakar Raghavan – “In our studies, something like almost 40% of young people, when they’re looking for a place for lunch, they don’t go to Google Maps or Search. They go to TikTok or Instagram.” This means that Google is facing competition on their own turf – search engines. When consumers are looking for product recommendations, reviews, first-hand knowledge, and real human takes, they overwhelmingly prefer video. One common trope is searching for a simple recipe on Google, only to have to scroll past some obscure blogger’s life story to get to the instructions. TikTok...

Social Media or Email Marketing?

Image
Looking at social media versus email marketing, we should examine the stage of our customer journey funnel for these tools, and how to build strategy and tactics that drive the action we want them to take. Let’s explore the KPIs (key performance index), customer journey funnel, and tactics for best practices when it comes to social media versus email marketing. As a marketer in the 21st century, it’s easy to talk about the “new hotness” and declare it’s the best way or only way to reach your audience (we’re looking at you, TikTok). Know which tools to use in your customer journey funnel and use them all. It’s good to keep that old proverb in mind, “If your only tool is a hammer, every problem looks like a nail.” Prospects and Interest For the most part, social media is engaged to reach your prospective audience and drive interest. A good social media strategy includes organic content and paid campaigns. Social media is today’s word-of-mouth, so it’s important to remember that your orga...

Reverse Engineering Content

Image
“Begin with the end in mind.” – Covey   That Covey statement is something we take to heart at  Pink Jacket . And when you talk about content creation, our strategy starts with “the end in mind”. Not only does your social media content need a thoughtful strategy, but all the other channels and media you use to tell your story should follow that same path. Here are 5 important tactics to reverse engineer your content strategy:   #5 PICK ONE THING AND DO IT WELL   Look at your marketing and promotional calendar and pick one main theme per period. If your first quarter of the year focuses on a specific promotion or goal, make that the most-thoughtfully planned, honed-in theme for content that quarter. Perhaps you also have secondary goals or promotions each month – if so, plan those out in your content calendar too but understand timing and tactics. Your brands core values and core purpose should make your customers feel a certain way and focusing on defining how ...

Pink Jackets – Summer Edition

Image
Pink Jackets – Summer Edition I was getting a burger the other day & the NBA 2023 Draft was on television. Looking at the panel I saw ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith talking about picks. I couldn’t actually hear anything he was saying, I’m sure it was as bombastic as his television persona tends to be, but what really caught my attention was his glorious pink suit jacket. It made me reflect on our Pink Jacket story. “…We noticed that whenever someone tried on the jacket, something happened to them. They became more boisterous, more extroverted and more approachable. Brandscaping ™  has the same effect on our clients’ brands, so we named the shop  Pink Jacket .” It was the living embodiment of our core philosophy and because I am chronically online & enjoy juxtaposition conceptually, I asked the team to launch, The Pink Jacket Summer Draft. And the picks are in.   Ryan’s Pick Two things stand out to me. First, that’s a good-looking jacket . For those curious, yes, ...

Logo Magic

Image
There is much that goes into designing logo magic that goes unseen. Behind the scenes, no illusions or wizardry are going on, as cool as it sounds. Instead, we’re more like mad scientists doing our research and then taking various elements manipulating and contorting shapes into various formations until we find an exciting configuration that fits our client’s objective. Research With  Pink Jacket’s  logo-making process, we start by learning the history of the client/product, why they came up with their brand name, and research what is already out there in the marketplace. We want to avoid looking like or being confused with  another brand . You can easily get into this unfortunate scenario when a logo project is rushed. Working in black and white After having researched competing looks, we start to work in black and white only. This forces us and the client to squarely  focus  on the foundation of the logo. Since we’re looking at typography treatments, sh...
